A question of honour
It is disgraceful that, in the face of the total vindication of Gordon Cordina by Eurostat itself, the Malta Labour Party is still not big enough to admit that the campaign they mounted to discredit the head of the National Statistics Office was an abominable mistake. Labour cannot repeat the canard that the revision took place in order to give an unfair advantage to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi over Alfred Sant.
This is further proof, if any were needed, of the malignant tactics employed by the MLP to target and attack people on a hideous personal level simply because they hold a different opinion to their own.
The only person, apart from Mr Cordina himself, who came out without egg on his face was Lino Spiteri, who maintained his reputation for fairness and objectivity.
Surely, the outcome of this sad episode makes the incontrovertible assertion that none of the Malta Labour Party's so-called experts is fit to step into Mr Cordina's boots. They all spectacularly discredited themselves by their zeal and subservience to their masters. In court parlance they aided and abetted the crime of a failed attempt of character assassination perpetrated on Mr Cordina.
As an electioneering tactic, this episode will not go down well with the all-important band of floating voters, who ultimately decide the outcome of every election.
Dr Sant is unable to fully comprehend that people like Charlon Gouder, Manuel Cuschieri and ex-Alternattiva founders Wenzu Mintoff and Toni Abela do not attract people; they repel them.
After 20 years on the opposition benches, the MLP should have learned that they need to change tack; they cannot allow the captain to repeatedly shipwreck the party.
