Used cheques sent in error

A man and his niece were yesterday charged with forgery and fraud when they allegedly endorsed three cheques that had mistakenly been sent to the man's address.

Alexander Cross, 52, of Naxxar and his 27-year-old niece Alexia Cross of St Paul's Bay pleaded not guilty to stealing three HSBC cheques, forging signatures, making malicious use of the forged documents and defrauding the bank of Lm1,800 last October.

The two pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafà prosecuted.

Lawyers Roberto Montalto and Raphael Fenech Adami appeared for the accused.
