The police are appealing the Magistrates' Court's decision on Tuesday acquitting 31 foreign lap dancers of their involvement in the running of nightclubs for immoral purposes.
In its judgment, the court had pointed to the changing moral standards of society and was particularly critical of the prosecution. A spokesman for the Home Affairs Ministry said, when contacted yesterday, that as the police had already filed an appeal, it was unethical to comment.
The Police Commissioner too declined to comment.
