Twice league MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns was ruled out of the NBA All-Star game because of injury.

Nash, who has sat out the last three games with an inflamed right shoulder, will miss the Suns' clash with Seattle today and will not return until after the All-Star break.

"Steve's just not ready to play right now. He needs the recovery and rehab time," said general manager and head coach Mike D'Antoni.

"He hasn't recovered as quickly as we anticipated. Hopefully, he'll be able to resume play after the All-Star break."

The NBA's most valuable player for the last two seasons, Nash could be on his way to a third MVP award as he averages career-highs of 19.3 points and 11.8 assists in 46 games this season.

Nash is on course to become the first NBA player to average over 19 points and 11 assists in a single season since Magic Johnson and former Sun Kevin Johnson in 1989-90.
