Young urged to avoid alcohol at carnival

Sedqa, the agency against drug and alcohol abuse, has appealed to children and adolescents to refrain from drinking alcohol during carnival.

Excessive alcohol consumption, even by adults, can result in accidents, violence and other improper behaviour, the agency said.

Such celebrations, it added, should be free from any type of abuse. The responsibility for this fell on the shoulders not just of parents but of the organisers and the companies taking part in carnival activities.

People needing help with problems related to substance abuse can call Helpline 151 or visit www.sedqa.gov.mt.
