The lawyer of the Pembroke local council and the Birzebbuga mayor yesterday filed two separate libel suits against the editor of Il-Mument.

Lawyer Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi filed a suit, in the Magistrates' Court, against editor Victor Camilleri over the content of an article entitled Suspett Ta' Frodi fil-Kunsill Ta' Pembroke (Fraud suspected at the Pembroke council) that was published on Sunday. This suit was signed by lawyer Joseph Sammut.

In a separate case, also before the Magistrates' Court, Birzebbuga mayor Joseph Farrugia claimed that the contents of an article, published in the newspaper's January 28 edition, were libellous.

The article was entitled Kunsill Lokali Birzebbuga - Il-Gvern Jghin Lil Lokalità (Birzebbuga local council - government helps the locality). Lawyer Joseph Mifsud signed this suit.
