Cut down on your electricity bills with little effort - February 13, 2007
Don't stand by, switch off
Around eight per cent of your electricity bill is spent on appliances such as TVs, DVD players, stereos, mobile phone charges and computers left on standby. Many devices - especially TVs - use almost as much electricity when on standby mode as when they are in use. Amazingly, the average microwave uses more energy powering its digital clock than it does to heat up food. So get into the habit of turning off devices properly, so as to save on your electricity bill.
In this way you are also helping reduce the CO2 (carbon dioxide) gas and help reduce the global warming problem.
