A homeowner and two workmen were yesterday charged with drilling a borehole to extract water without a licence.

Tyrone Dyer, 55, of Naxxar, Albert Gauci, 33, of Rabat, and Joseph Frendo, 32, of Naxxar, were summoned to appear in court to answer to charges of drilling the borehole without permission at Mr Dyer's house, in September 2004.

The three men pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia is prosecuting.

Lawyer Chris Soler is appearing for the men.
