There is no valid economic argument for an air link between Malta and Gozo. It baffles me why the hoteliers want an air link when in fact they, more than anyone else, should be against it.

Gozo is already losing its attractiveness due to noise and air pollution. A fixed-wing aircraft will ring the death knell of tourism.

Actually the government should be given a lot of credit for resisting the incessant lobbying of a handful of powerful albeit misguided individuals who don't realise that they may kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

No community in the world wants to have an airport in its backyard. Emergencies, such as rough seas, can always be handled by the armed forces if necessary.

However, if we have to have an air connection, the seaplane is the right solution. Depending on the weather, the seaplane can land either at Mgarr or Marsalforn.

Tourism in Gozo does not need an airstrip or even an air link. It needs good marketing.
