May I draw the attention of the competent authorities, mainly the ADT and the Iklin local council, to the fact that the residents of Upper Censu Busuttil Street are suffering from a deterioration in their quality of life because of the alarming increase in vehicle traffic due to the diversion that occurred years ago. A rather narrow road without any front gardens has been turned from a secondary road in the midst of a small village to a bypass.
Most of the cars coming from Valletta on their way to Naxxar are converging on this street to avoid the traffic congestion on the roundabout near the Bathroom Design showroom. As a consequence, the residents are bearing the brunt of suffocating fumes and black dust causing health problems, such as asthma and cancer. Moreover, as this street goes uphill, more fumes are being emitted as speeding cars are the norm.
I hope that the residents' plea for a safer and cleaner environment is heeded for the benefit of all by diverting traffic through peripheral wider roads.
