The Department of Communications and Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering, in association with Vodafone Malta, has embarked on a project to inform the public about Radio Frequency Radiation, Progett Gardjola.
Through Progett Gardjola the public is able to monitor radio frequency radiation levels in Malta and Gozo in quasi-real time.
Vodafone has donated 10 electro-magnetic probes to the Engineering Department to be used in this project.
Electro-magnetic radiation probes measure radio frequency levels emitted within the 100 kHz and 3 GHz range, including TV, radio and GSM transmissions. These probes have been installed in different locations across the Maltese Islands.
The readings from each probe will be downloaded daily to a Web server, which will be displaying readings as selected by the user.
The readings are reproduced in graphs in the 'View Emission Levels' section on this site.
In each graph one can view the emission readings for the selected probe as well as the maximum emission levels set by the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), which was adopted by the Maltese authorities.
