The Association of Airline Engineers (AAE), Malta, and Lufthansa Technik Malta last week reached a satisfactory conclusion to the first collective agreement between the two parties, following weeks of intense discussions, according to reliable sources.
The collective agreement introduces new work practices, such as the banking of hours and a flexible working week, which are critical to the organisation in the face of increasing global competition, the fluctuating seasonality in this business as well as the multi-million euro investment project being negotiated for the Malta facility.
It also provides for increased opportunities for training and development of the employees, as well as new positions and growth possibilities.
The conclusion of this forward-looking agreement and its approval by AAE members is a show of trust in the company, their understanding and appreciation of the competitive nature of the business as well as their recognition of the importance of the new investment.
This first collective agreement covers the period 2007 to 2012 and is a major step forward in the finalisation of discussions on the new investment being planned for Malta.
Lufthansa Technik Malta is also currently negotiating a second collective agreement with the Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM). The conclusion of the agreement with UHM before the end of this month is critical as a pre-condition of Lufthansa Technik's planned investment in Malta, as had been announced in the press last November.
