Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya set a world record in the Ras al-Khaimah international half-marathon yesterday. The 20-year-old clocked 58 minutes 53 seconds to beat the previous record set by Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie who ran 58:55 in Phoenix, Arizona, in Jan. 2006, the IAAF said. Wanjiru collected a winner's cheque of $20,000.
