Refugee shot

An Eritrean refugee was shot and seriously injured during a fight between Maltese and foreign nationals near a bar in Xatt il-Mollijiet, Marsa, early yesterday morning, the police said.

They are now searching for the man, a Maltese, who allegedly fired the shot.

The police said they were informed about the incident at about 5 a.m.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a number of Maltese people had an argument with a group of foreign nationals when one of the Maltese produced a firearm and fired a shot which hit the refugee.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he was found to be suffering from serious injuries although he was not in a critical condition.

Sources said the Eritrean has been interviewed by the police about the incident.
