I was not at all surprised to see Lara Vassallo's letter on The Times (February 5) in relation to a letter I had written slightly earlier on the subject of divorce. I wish to take this opportunity to clarify a few points.

Firstly, I consider it cheap and low on Ms Vassallo's part to mention my participation in SDM and take this opportunity to attack SDM. Ms Vassallo would do well to learn the difference between when a person is writing in his personal capacity or writing on behalf of a particular organisation. In this regard I am writing in my personal capacity and my letter has no bearing or relation of any sort to SDM and therefore attacking SDM based on my letter simply proves that Ms Vassallo is simply eager to attack anyone not conforming to the party she deems as a breath of fresh air.

Secondly, both the MLP and PN have certainly not waited for AD for them to take a stand. When elected to power in 1996 the Labour government led by Alfred Sant had initiated an official discussion on divorce indicating that the Labour Party was interested in exploring the issue. On its part the PN has never hidden its position on divorce being that of opposing such legislation for various reasons.

Thirdly, what I said on Alternattiva Demokratika was not in direct relation to their position per se. It was as to the manner and motive behind such a position and stand. The fact that Ms Vassallo heaps praise upon praise upon Alternattiva and dishes out criticism to both the PN and MLP proves my earlier point completely.
