Mepa caseload

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority decided 704 applications last month and received 826 fresh applications.

The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,782.

Last month, Mepa processed 51 notifications of development that do not require a formal application.

Sixty-four stop and enforcement notices were issued, 44 in Malta and the rest in Gozo.

Of the 48 enforcement cases that were closed, 35 were in Malta and the remainder in Gozo.

Forty enforcement cases were sanctioned. Another seven were resolved when the owners removed the illegal developments and complied with enforcement notices. One enforcement case was withdrawn by Mepa.

Thirty-six cases received at the complaints office were resolved without the need of enforcement action, as the owners complied with instructions by enforcement officers.

Mepa carried out five direct action operations, three in Zebbug, one in St Julians and another in Swieqi.
