Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said that 1,933 persons were arraigned in court last year for failing to submit VAT declarations and payments on time; 145 for failing to observe previous court sentences; 36 for having repeatedly submitted VAT returns without due payment and 72 for illegally importing items which were subject to VAT. He was replying to a parliamentary question by Adrian Vassallo (MLP)
