Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech has appointed Canon Edward Xuereb as Judicial Vicar of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Gozo Diocese.
The appointment is another step in the renewal of the tribunal, which started on Mgr Grech's appointment as bishop.
Canon Xuereb, who was ordained in June 1995, graduated in sacred theology from the Università Angelicum in Rome and obtained his doctorate from the University of Malta last year.
He has served at the Santa Lucia parish in Rome and the Xewkija parish. He is parish priest of the Corpus Christi church in Ghasri.
He has served as judge within the Ecclesiastical Tribunal in the Gozo Diocese. He is also secretary of the Presbyterian Council, a lecturer in Latin at the seminary, diocesan director of altar boys, and ecclesiastical assistant of the diocesan children's branch of the Catholic Action.
Mgr Grech has also nominated Fr Renato Sammut and Fr Franz Refalo as judges of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal.
At present Canon Joe Zammit is a judge on both ecclesiastical tribunals in Malta and Gozo. Bishop Emeritus Nikol Cauchi and Fr Guzepp Gauci are auditors on Gozo's tribunal.
Together with Chancellor Fr Frangisk Saliba, Mgr Grech gave Fr Ewkaristico Sultana a role in the tribunal.
