Nature Trust has welcomed a decision by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to schedule the salt marsh sites at Il-Ballut ta' Marsaxlokk and Is-Simar, in St Paul's Bay.

Nature Trust had compiled a draft management plan for Il-Ballut ta' Marsaxlokk some years ago.

The main problems affecting the site were found to be water currents in the bay that seem to be eating away the coastline (sand beach) and eroding the embankment along the site on the beach side and the effluents seeping from a nearby animal farm that are having a negative effect on the brackish water pools within the site.

It has also been seeking funds to move ahead with the conservation of this ecologically-important site.
