Matthew Asciak and his tennis partner Alexander Bull, of the UK, were beaten in the final of the ITF doubles tournament in Leuggern, Switzerland, on Friday.

Asciak and Bull had won a tough three-setter in the semi-finals against Kontinen (Finland) and Strunnikov (Russia) 6-3 6-7 6-4 but in the final they lost to French pair Pierre H. Herbert and Romain Sichez.

In Leuggern, Asciak also figured in the singles event but was eliminated in the second round by Lithuania's Laurynas Grigelis 6-4 6-2. It was a useful experience for the Malta champion, sponsored by Lufthansa, as in Leuggern he played all his matches indoors with very little practice time available due to a tight schedule to complete the tournament.

Next week, Asciak starts his stint with Sicily's Tennis Club Montekatira in the Italian national league. This month he plays another ITF tournament for juniors in Holland.
