Chevrolet sales in Europe exceeded 340,000 units in 2006 - reaching a market share of 1.6%. Similar to last year, December sales were particularly strong: they reached over 30,000 units, 5,000 more than in December 2005.
In 2006, the main growth area was again Central and Eastern Europe, with sales of over 188,000 units and overall growth of 33.5%. In Russia, Chevrolet sold over 111,400 vehicles, as compared to 67,000 units in 2005.
Outstanding sales results were realised in Germany (over 23,480 units sold; +13%), Italy (36,750 units; +5.3%), Spain (28,410 units; +4.9%), and also in small but sophisticated markets such as Switzerland (3,155 units; +12.2%), Norway (1,120 units; +9%) and Ireland (2,140 units; +8.2%). "Chevrolet continues to grow at a remarkable pace in Europe," Wayne Brannon, executive director, Chevrolet Europe, said. "With an array of new vehicles introduced last year and fully coming on stream this year, we should be capable of continuing our growth in a similar way.
"In addition, we will introduce new diesel engines in our Epica and the Lacetti/Nubira vehicle range and thus participate in a larger segment of the market than in the past."
Chevrolet is General Motors' leading global brand, with over four million vehicles sold in over 120 countries. It is available in Malta through the local agent Mira Motor Sales Ltd, and can be seen at the agents' showroom on the Mriehel Bypass.
