The owner of a lotto office in Senglea was held up and robbed by two thieves at about 8 p.m. on Friday.
They were after takings from the sale of lotto tickets for yesterday's draw and other sales.
As he was in his car in Is-Sur Street, the owner was forced to hand over his bag by one of the thieves, who was armed and hooded, the police said.
The police said the haul consisted of cash and other objects. The stolen sum was not disclosed.
No one was injured in the incident.
Magistrate Antonio Mizzi appointed a team of experts to help in the inquiry.
The police are investigating.
Meanwhile, another lotto receiver filed a report with police yesterday afternoon after his bag containing his takings was stolen in Sliema. The man, who runs a lotto office in Birkirkara, drove to Sliema to help his wife close her lotto office there. He returned to his car to find his bag had gone missing.
