The Manwel Dimech bridge on the Regional Road was reopened again yesterday afternoon after one lane had to be closed in the morning following a traffic accident.

Early yesterday morning a truck carrying skips crashed into the barrier at the edge of the bridge in the lane leading to Valletta.

Although nobody was injured in the accident, part of the barrier was destroyed and needed to be replaced.

However, a spokesman for the Roads Ministry said concrete barriers were put in place yesterday as a temporary measure.

A similar accident occurred in December, when a Scammel crashed into the barrier on the other lane. The bridge is currently operating a two-way one-lane system while work is under way on one of the viaducts, part of an extensive project to replace the bridge.
