It seems that Kirkop mayor Mario Salerno was offended by my letter (The Sunday Times, January 21). I assure him that my intentions are good and by no means do I intend to interfere with his duties.
Although he mentioned a couple of works carried out last year, he still did not convince me completely about works that should have been done. He says his secretary and two clerks have their duties to fulfil. I wonder how many clerks other councils employ considering their population and area.
The works carried out on St Leonard Square and St Leonard's church parvis should have been done by the Ministry of Infrastructure and not using the council's funds if he wanted to promote himself in our locality.
The money spent on this project would have been better spent when one considers that St Leonard Square was upgraded some years ago.
It was good to mention the CCTV cameras installed recently after a spate of local thefts. This was done a little too late as before the council seemed not to care that even the local police station was always closed.
One also has to ask: who is benefiting most from the school library? Is it the person who is being paid to open it for a few hours every week? This library job could easily be carried out from the council office without extra expense. Pjazza Zernieq cannot be called a square when one cannot even walk on it properly because of the poor state of the road.
The proposed public toilets might give it the meaning of a pjazza where one goes to relax.
If I had the time I would attend public meetings held at the council and maybe even contest for Mr Salerno's post as I don't lack any abilities he possesses.
