A man was yesterday given a suspended jail term for defrauding another man of Lm500 when he bought a car and did not pay for it.

Carmelo Borda, 39, of Birkirkara pleaded guilty to defrauding the car owner on August 26, 2006.

He was given an 18-month jail term suspended for three years.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli ordered Mr Borda to refund the Lm500 within six months.

Police Inspector Joseph Cordina prosecuted.

Lawyer Martin Fenech was defence counsel.
