It was the level of sulphur dioxide polluting the air and not carbon dioxide, as erroneously reported on January 25 and in yesterday's editorial, that dropped by almost 70 per cent in two years, a spokesman for the Environment Ministry said yesterday.

The spokesman said that according to the latest available figures, carbon dioxide emissions amounted to 2.6 million tons in 2003. In 1995, the figure was 2.1 million tons.

The error is regretted.
