Heritage trails start with focus on Inquisition

Heritage Malta is launching its Heritage Trails for 2007 with each tour focusing on a different theme, including history, ecology, archaeology and art.

The first trail, focusing on the Inquisition in Malta, will be held on February 18, when visitors will have the opportunity of visiting the Inquisitor's Palace, in Girgenti.

A second trail, in April, will give participants an insight into the geology, ecology and flora of Malta with the focus being on Dingli Cliffs, Buskett Gardens and the National Museum of Natural History.

The summer solstice at Hagar Qim temples will be held in June. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the phenomenon and learn more, about prehistoric temple builders.

Another trail, in September, will allow participants appreciate Caravaggio's legacy and the last trail, in November, will focus on the British period in Malta including Fort Madliena and the Old Bakery within the Malta Maritime Museum.

Tickets for each trail cost Lm5 and can be obtained from Heritage Malta's head office in Merchants Street, Valletta, by calling 2295 4312. A block ticket for all five trails can be bought for Lm22 up to February 16.
