MSC Cruises, the Italian cruise liner giant, has become the first company to join the Friends of Venice Club, a club that unites the city's supporters who contribute to its image and the protection of its heritage.

"Venice offers the entire world an incredible synthesis of art, culture, show and tradition.

This is an ongoing relationship and collaboration, which started in 2000 and has been reinforced by the christening of our flagship MSC Musica last year, against Venice's splendid background of Riva Sette Martiri," MSC Cruises chief executive Pierre Francesco Vago said.

As a result of this association, MSC Cruises will support and be linked to the most important events from the Venice Carnival, including the great competition of the masks that takes place in St Mark's Square, to the Regatta in September.

When MSC Orchestra joins the fleet in May it will cruise out of Venice on June 2, increasing the annual number of passengers to 330,000.

Hamilton Travel are the exclusive general sales agents for MSC Cruises.
