The police solved 48 cases of theft in November and 35 last month and criminal proceedings have started in court in 55 of the cases, Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said yesterday.

In all 770 cases of theft were reported in November and 750 last month.

The minister told Labour MP Gavin Gulia in reply to parliamentary questions that theft reported in November and last month was as follows: hold-ups, 10 in November, two last month; pickpocketing 46, 77; snatch and grab, seven each month; theft from boats, five each month; one theft of boat in November; theft of cars (51, 40); theft from cars (227, 202); theft from residences (52, 58); theft from bars/hotels (26, 22); theft from factories (one, eight); theft from shops (30, 36); and other theft (314, 293).

Other crimes reported to the police in the same two months were as follows: crimes against family morals/honour (four, one); arson (seven, 16); attempted offences (95, 78); bodily harm (94, 81); computer misuse (two each month); damage (220, 239); drugs (nine, eight); forgery (six, five); fraud (13, 15); illegal migration (10, five); prostitution (five in November); sexual offences (five, three); threats and private violence (four, eight); trafficking of persons (one in November); and violence against public officers (seven each month).
