Obituary
ELLUL GALEA. On January 29, at St Luke's Hospital, KARMENU ELLUL GALEA, MOM, of Paola, (veteran trade unionist and author), widower of Karmena, aged 92, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Mary Grace, Lora and her husband Manuel, Antoinette and her husband Joe, and Alfred and his wife Judith, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Zabbar cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
MALLIA. On January 29, at St Luke's Hospital, PAUL of Balzan, residing at Paola, aged 55, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Carmen, his children Jessica, Matthew, Gabriella and Rowena, his mother Lucy, his brothers and sisters, his mother-in-law Catherine, in-laws, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. She leaves to mourn her loss her sister Mary, widow of John Callus, her brothers Lorry, widower of Tessie, and Joe and his wife Georgina, her nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Lawrence parish church, Vittoriosa, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Australia Day
The Emigrants Commission and the Friends of Australia Association will celebrate Australia Day at Dar L-Emigrant in Valletta today at 6.30 p.m.
The Australian High Commissioner, Jurek Juszczyk, and his wife Malgosia Juszcyck will be present.

Carnival In Paola
The Paola parish committee is organising a number of carnival activities to be held between February 15 and 19.
On February 15 at 9 a.m. there will be a coffee morning at the parish hall while a wine, pizza and tombola night will take place at the hall on February 17 at 7 p.m.
A variety programme including singing, dancing and a competition for the best costume for children will be held at Paola Square on February 18 at 10.30 a.m.
On February 19, a carnival evening featuring the final of the best costume competition, a three-course dinner and dancing will take place at the parish hall at 6 p.m.
Tickets as well as applications for the competition for best costume will be available from the parish hall on February 12.
Wishes Granted
Three lucky children have had their wishes granted after drawing up a wish list from the Playmobil product catalogue.
At the beginning of December, Playmobil selected 950 children's names and asked each child to create a wish list.
The lucky winners are Francesca Zammit with the Playmobil Zoo, Jacob Jordan Catania with the Knights Empire Castle and Christina Barbara who received the Magic Castle.
The presentation of the gifts took place at the Playmobil FunPark on January 16.
The Playmobil Funpark is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Prayer Meetings
Two MIR prayer meetings led by Fr William Hayden will be held at the Trinity Church in Marsa on Sunday between 7 and 9.45 p.m. and at the Chapel of the Sisters of St Claire in St Julians on February 13 between 6.45 and 9.45 p.m.
The first prayer meeting is for families while the second is for young people aged 30 or younger.
The prayer meetings consist of the rosary, Mass and adoration during which there will be prayers for conversions.

Pool Tournament
The Committee of the St Catherine's Band Club Youth Section in Zurrieq will hold a one-day American pool tournament at the club on February 10 from 9 a.m. onwards. The fee to enter the competition is Lm2.50.
Applications may be collected from the bar at the club by not later than Thursday. The first three placed will be given awards.
Wine Lecture
As part of the annual series of lectures, a lecture entitled Ir-Regjuni Tal-Nbid Fi Spanja will be delivered in Maltese by Mario Felice at the Centro Cultural Hispano-Maltés', 18A/5, Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street in Valletta on Friday at 6.30 p.m.
Mr Felice will be outlining the various wine regions as well as the different grapes.

Forum On Sickness
A forum dealing with issues relating to the sick will be held by the Commission for the Sick and Disabled of the Malta Catholic Action at the Catholic Institute in Floriana on February 7 at 6 p.m.
Copies of the Pope's message on the occasion of World Sick Persons' Day celebrated on February 11 will be presented.
The main speakers will be Fr Andrew Borg, Mgr Alwig Deguara, spiritual director of the Commission, and Joe Bonello.
The main theme is the value of suffering.
Cactus Society Meeting
The Cactus and Succulent Society of Malta will hold a meeting for its members and all those interested in the cultivation of cacti and other succulents at Din l-Art Helwa, 133, Melita Street, Valletta on Sunday at 9.45 a.m.
Rene Zahra and Amante Darmanin will show slides. A number of rare cacti and other succulents will be on display.
