Members of the Malta Indian Community and the Peace Lab on Sunday met for a thanksgiving service at the Peace Lab in Hal Far to commemorate Mohandas Karamachand Gandhi on the 59th anniversary of his death.

Fr Dionysius Mintoff, director of the Peace Lab, touched on Gandhi's contribution towards the culture of peace and non-violence.

But, he said, unfortunately Gandhi's message has not been universally accepted by world rulers, many of whom preferred a "might against right" policy. Tikam Barwani, president of the Malta India Community remarked that his movement looks forward to this annual event when Gandhi's life is commemorated.

On behalf of the community, Mr Barwani laid flowers by the bronze monument in the atrium of the Peace Lab.

Gandhi was assassinated in Delhi on January 30, 1948.
