The National Statistics Office is carrying out a census of greenhouses and a census of floriculture with February 1 being Census Day.

The NSO said the censuses will contribute to the improvement of agricultural statistics, providing important information which may be used for planning and policy purposes.

The last census of greenhouses was carried out in 2002. Information on floriculture was last obtained in the census of agriculture 2001.

All farmers who own a greenhouse and/or grow flowers in the open will be enumerated.

These persons will be contacted by an NSO official who will fix an appointment for an interview. Personal interviews will be carried out at a time and place which are convenient for the interviewee.

Participation is compulsory under the Malta Statistics Authority Act XXIV 2000.

Strict confidentiality will be observed with regard to all the information collected.
