Joseph Galea of Swieqi was booked twice by wardens for having his car registration disk on the upper left hand side of his windscreen (December 24), something he has been doing for the past 20-odd years.

For Mr Galea's and everyone's information, exactly near the disk when it is still on the licence sheet we are given when we pay it are the following words: "To be displayed on the left-hand side of the windscreen."

Now then, where is the left hand side? I think it should be quite obvious this is on the passenger side of the vehicle. That is where I have always put mine since 1958 and I usually put it at the top of the windscreen for it to be seen better.

Since its inception, I have always been in favour of the warden system as a back-up to the police and a much-needed service towards better driving conditions but we have seen far too many instances of wardens acting in this unacceptable way.

Mr Galea and others like him, though understanding, are wrong to simply take the easier way out and pay the fine. This is sending the wrong message. It is about time motorists stand up to this nonsense. It is quite incredible that while wardens can waste their time on such trivialities they ignore much more serious contraventions when they see them.

I am not in favour of the government interfering in just about everything but something must be done to protect citizens from this sort of action by wardens.
