The Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi said these not-to-be-forgotten words exactly a year ago about January 27, Jewish Holocaust Day:

"This date should remind everybody of the constant need to sustain the efforts to uphold the value of the dignity of every human being," adding: "Today the international community recalls with deep sadness a tragedy of unparallelled proportions that has claimed the lives of millions.

"It also provides us with the opportunity to restate the continued need for vigilance in order to prevent the repetition of human tragedies in the world today. May this day constitute a remembrance of human tragedies that should never happen again." (The Times, January 28, 2006).

The Jewish community commemorates the day with prayers and lighting candles to the souls of all who died and keep on dying on the alter of hate. All those who feel the same are asked to light candles in their home today and may everybody's light united shine and propagate in a flame of human care.
