MTA training programmes for the tourism industry

The Malta Tourism Authority is to host a further 11 customer service training programmes for the tourism industry due to popular demand following the successful training programmes introduced by the MTA in collaboration with MISCO last year.

Merhba and Service Culture have proved to be particularly popular among employees of ADT, Air Malta, Gozo Channel, MIA personnel, private coach drivers, taxi drivers, coachmen and route bus drivers, as well as supervisors and managers from hotels, restaurants and other tourist service providers.

The demand was so high that even these courses are already fully subscribed by those who were unable to attend the previous training programmes due to over-subscription.

The Tourism and Support Services Training Programme is partly funded by the EU's European Social Fund and all training programmes provided are free of charge.

The development of this project arises primarily from the need to provide for a holistic approach towards training and human resource development in tourism and tourist support services.

The programme includes Service Culture training in the tourism industry, benchmarking improvement of standards and working practices, training transport service providers to communicate with tourists and to provide helpful information about Malta, training assistance and support to small and independent businesses to help them implement high quality and effective development plans to foster growth within their respective companies, as well as a study on lifelong learning for the tourism sector.

For further information, call the MTA's Industry HR Development Unit on 2291-5124/2, e-mail training@visitmalta.com or visit http://www.misco.com.mt/mtaprogrammes/.
