Maltese professional players Tony Drago and Alex Borg had their run in the China Open cut short yesterday when they were ousted from the second qualifying round at Prestatyn, Wales.

Borg, who rallied for a 5-4 win over Paul Davison in the first round on Tuesday, was beaten by Jamie Burnett while Drago fell to Lee Spick both with similar 5-3 scorelines.

Drago has a chance to gain quick revenge on Mansfield-born Spick as on Sunday both players clash again in the opening qualifying round of the ranking Malta Cup tournament at the Hilton Portomaso.

Their eight frames yesterday lasted one hour and 36 minutes.

Borg was three frames behind Burnett but set up an exciting finish after winning frame six and seven to pull back to 4-3. However, a break of 44 earned Burnett the frame and a round three match against Michael Judge.
