A Hamrun man of Italian origin was yesterday jailed for two years for threatening and assaulting seven police officers at the St Julians police station when he was being investigated over a burglary in April 2004.

Maurizio Massimiliano, 42, was found guilty of breaking into a car and stealing a remote control device, threatening and assaulting the police officers, causing over Lm50 damage at the St Julians police station, disobeying the police and relapsing.

He was, however, cleared of breaking into another car and stealing a car stereo on lack of evidence.

The case was heard by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano. Police Inspector Martin Sammut prosecuted.
