Alex Borg came back from the verge of defeat to beat Paul Davison 5-4 yesterday and book his place in the second qualifying round of the China Open.

The match, at Prestatyn, Wales, turned out to be a tight affair but after the interval Davison closed in on qualification by winning the opening two frames with runs of 54 and 47 to take a 4-2 lead.

The Malta champion did not buckle though and won the next three frames to seal a 5-4 win. Today, he plays Jamie Burnett.

Also today, Tony Drago plays his second qualifying round match against either Lee Spick or Jeff Cundy. Spick will be Drago's opponent on Sunday in the Malta Cup qualifier at the Hilton Portomaso.
