Revel Barker - fast becoming the sage of Gozo - makes a completely valid point.
Do the authors of the latest rather fatuous proposal to improve links between Malta and Gozo really believe that tourists who may have spent five or more hours in airport terminals and in the air, will readily face a coach trip to Grand Harbour and then the likely complications of a trip to Mgarr by seaplane?
It may be a great, cheap, adventure for some, but seaplanes face particular problems (not least with underwater hazards, take-off visibility, sea state and the rest). Even embarking and disembarking in any kind of sea may be difficult. And that assumes absolute, clockwork-like precision at every stage of the operation - all of which is essential if such a service could be made viable.
At their best, the helicopter services did not provide any kind of reliability. But, I suspect, the scheme will roll, albeit for the reasons Mr Barker suggests.
