Marsa consolidated their top position in the Winter League after beating second-placed Krishna last Saturday.

Krishna won the toss and elected to bowl. Marsa had a bad start having Sarfraz Ali run out on the fourth ball of the innings for three runs. His partner, Mark G. Sacco, then went on to make an 89-run partnership with Robert Krishna.

Krishna was eventually bowled for 51 runs, including three 4s. Ronnie Sacco joined his brother Mark and made 28 runs. Mark G. Sacco was run out on the last ball of the innings for 39 runs and Mike Caruana helped raise the score for Marsa by scoring 18 not out off eight balls.

For Krishna, Sam Dhandapani was the best bowler taking one wicket for 37 runs from five overs.

Marsa totalled 167 runs from their allotted overs. They looked ideally set by the 12th over, having Krishna three wickets down for 84 runs.

Dhandapani was at the crease and batting well for Krishna but his partners kept on leaving him.

John Grima was bowled by a well-flighted delivery from Sarfraz Ali, Mark Sacco was caught by Ronnie Sacco for five runs and Jeya Krishna was bowled by Ronnie Sacco for 23 runs.

Only last man Roman managed to stay with Dhandapani who kept the run rate ticking, making two runs off almost every ball he faced. He managed to bring Krishna within 12 runs of victory but then holed out with Mike Caruana taking the catch.

Dhandapani scored the second highest individual score of the league - 91 runs.

Sarfraz Ali and Gordon Hewitt both took two wickets each for Marsa who won the game by 12 runs and earned nine points for the win.

In Saturday's match, Marsa face Overseas at noon. Nursery/academy activities will be held between 9.30 and 11.30 a.m.

Standings: Marsa (five matches) 37 points; Krishna (five) 29 points; Overseas (three) 5 points.
