The Malta Labour Party's general conference, to be held in the first week of February, will be partly modelled on the British Labour Party conference, party president Stefan Zrinzo told The Times.
NGOs and individuals interested in the policy papers the party will be discussing will have a chance to influence the delegates before the papers are adopted by the party general conference. This can take place in a number of conferences that will be held ahead of the general conference.
The party spokesmen on youths, the elderly, conditions of work, family and equality will lead these conferences where those interested can give their input so that the delegates would be able to raise issues to make improve on the party documents.
"We have already carried out consultations but we feel we should explain what we are doing and let others influence us even more," he said.
These conferences will be held away from the party clubs and headquarters in a bid to attract as a wide an audience as possible.
The general conference will also elect 10 members of the executive committee and the party's administration officials.
All the officials are uncontested, except for education secretary Aleks Farrugia, who will be contested by Wenzu Mintoff.
