The Consumer and Competition Division, which is responsible for the enforcement of the Product Safety Act in Malta, said it has received various reports of fire incidents in houses allegedly caused by night lamps Hengsheng, Dim Night Lighting, Model HS-309.

The night lamps in question, sold mainly through open-air market stalls, do not conform to the requirements of the Low Voltage Electrical Equipment Regulations 2002 and pose a serious risk of electrocution, the division said.

The division warned that any consumer who has bought this product should immediately stop using it. It is taking steps to ensure that the product is withdrawn from the market.
