A young man has been jailed for a year for his involvement in trying to burgle an elderly woman's house in Hamrun.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard how, on June 5, 2005 at about 2.30 p.m., the police noticed three men trying to break into a Hamrun house.

Two of the men managed to get away but officers arrested Philip Camilleri who was arraigned and charged with attempted burglary and damaging the woman's house.

The magistrate found Mr Camilleri, of Zebbug, guilty of the charge and jailed him for a year.

Police Inspectors Geoffrey Azzopardi and Mario Bonello prosecuted.
