A 38-year-old man has been jailed for two years for stealing two cheque books and making use of them.

Jacques Bonett, of Balzan, was found guilty of breaking into Anthony Lia's van, stealing his mobile phone and two cheque books and making use of the cheques to buy over Lm500 worth of mobile phone top-up vouchers.

He was also found guilty of defrauding Mr Lia, forging his signature, and damaging his car on January 25, 2005.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti presided over the case.

Police Inspectors Victor Aquilina and Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.
