The Sliema local council is to request a public meeting with the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to explain to residents the development planned for the site now occupied by the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Sliema.

The local council said it intended to keep its "eyes open" about the 386-apartment development being proposed for the site in order to ensure that protected areas would remain protected and that the developer sticks to the development brief.

Several complaints were received from residents and their interests had to be safeguarded, the council said during its monthly meeting yesterday.
