Nowotny: Germany defender Jens Nowotny has left Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb due to a persistent knee injury, daily newspaper Vecernji List reported. Nowotny, 33, joined Dinamo last July on a three-year contract worth two million euros. He had surgery in September on his left knee but was told by doctors that he needed another operation, which he will have in Germany.

Marcelinho: Brazilian playmaker Marcelinho will return to the Bundesliga, joining VfL Wolfsburg this month from Turkish first division team Trabzonspor, Wolfsburg said. No terms were announced but German media put the transfer fee at 2.75 million euros. He has signed a contract to 2009. Marcelinho, 31, played 155 Bundesliga matches for Hertha Berlin from 2001 to 2006, scoring 65 goals before Hertha sold him for 2.5 million euros in July. He earned five caps for Brazil earlier in his career.

Luisao in court: Brazil and Benfica defender Luisao was released after a hearing before a judge for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday. The 25-year-old told journalists outside the court in Lisbon he was "going back to Benfica's training grounds." Benfica travel to Coimbra to meet Academica in the Portuguese Premier League tomorrow.

Hawaiian golfer Tadd Fujikawa eagled the last hole to become the second youngest player to make the cut in a PGA Tour event at the Sony Open on Friday. The 16-year-old amateur from Honolulu followed his opening one-over-par 71 with a four-birdie 66 at a breezy Waialae Country Club. Aged 16 years and four days, the Moanalua High School student is the youngest player to qualify for the weekend at a PGA Tour event in 50 years. Bob Panasik holds the record after surviving the cut at the 1957 Canadian Open aged 15 years, eight months and 20 days.

Organisers of the prestigious Kitzbuehel World Cup skiing meeting have announced plans to transport more than 4,000 cubic metres of snow to the Austrian resort in an effort to salvage this month's races. Kitzbuehel, one of the classic venues on the Alpine Ski circuit, is set to stage three races between Jan. 26 and 28 but a lack of snow has led organisers to take costly measures.
