A new drag racing world record for Toyota Supra 7MGTE engines was established recently at Hal Far. Gary Curmi, of Mibrum Racing Team, drove his Supra Dragster to a new world mark during last month's Malta Drag Racing Association series at the Raceway.

Curmi's task was not an easy one considering that the previous record belonged to parts giant HKS team. They possessed the Supra 7MGTE record with a 7.6-second quarter-mile run assisted with NOS.

At Hal Far Curmi had an impressive run of 7.44 seconds, reaching a break-neck speed of 178.37 mph without NOS use. That run guided the Mibrum Racing Team to the top of the list with bright prospects of holding on to the new record for a long time.

"Gary's time was fantastic," said crew chief and mechanic Joseph Tabone. "At 60 feet he clocked an impressive 1.07 seconds. But, we're not stopping there.

"The Supra engine could be revved up for more powerful runs. So, we are looking forward to improve on 7.44. The record run was performed with only 39psi of Turbo Boost from 45-50psi available."

The Mibrum Racing Team is sponsored by Total Oils, Thomas Smith Freight Forwarders, Casa Nova, Cat Cams and JMC Power Automotive.
