A homeless man was yesterday jailed for 14 months when he pleaded guilty to trying to steal a car and damaging it in Sta Venera on Wednesday.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani heard Domenic Fava plead guilty to trying to steal the car and a car stereo and relapsing. The magistrate, who also heard that Mr Fava had a drug problem, recommended he attend a rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted. Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the accused.
