Joseph Serracino (Malta Really Part Of Atlantis, November 15) must read further material about Atlantis as he is misinformed about the lost continent.

Plato stated, as the Saite Priest told him, that Atlantis was situated outside the "Pillars of Hercules" and Plato calls the Mediterranean "only a harbour". Its remains are the Azores and the Canary Islands, so Mr Serracino is confusing the location of the island continent.

For his information Plato also stated that there was a continent west of Atlantis. As he was not referring to America it was called Antilla. In fact the Antillies are now a group of islands that once formed the continent of Atlantis. It was situated in front of the "Pillars of Hercules", otherwise the straits of Gibraltar.

It will be admitted that reliable evidence exists for the assumption that the area of the Sargasso Sea coincides with that of sunken Atlantis. A greater amount of proof that the weed of which it is composed is in some manner connected with the detritus of the sunken continent is certainly desirable.

So some people like Mr Serracino are trying to convince us and combine Malta with Atlantis, when in fact it doesn't make any kind of sense; it is not a good step for searching for the real Atlantis.
