Mixed media and filigree

The grey mood evident in Samuel Beckett's works has manifested itself in a joint monochrome exhibition of two theatre aficionados.

After a disillusioned night at the theatre nearly two years ago, Kevin Attard and Dutch artist Pim Tiggelman happened to get chatting over a drink and forged a friendship that has resulted in a sombre display of mixed media and filigree.

The collection of works is on display at the General Workers' Union, in South Street, Valletta, until the end of January between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Mr Attard's small, intricately twisted silver provide a demure sparkle among Mr Tiggelman's charcoal paintings that depict images of pain and injustice.

As an artist, Mr Attard is constantly trying to let his creativity loose when it comes to his pieces, but it doesn't always pay since most associate filigree with the Maltese cross.

"I know these pieces are destined for the furnace once the exhibition is over," he said, realising that a traditional exhibition would soon be in the offing.

The exhibition's official inauguration is tomorrow and the public is invited to attend.
